Thank you for reading the manual for youth workers on how to work with and support young people who stutter. In this manual we described five parts of the social information process model to take into consideration when working with YPWS: information encoding (how to recognize stuttering); information interpreting (attitudes toward stuttering); setting goals; creating a plan of action; behaviour and feedback. These parts are represented in every social situation. We hope after reading this manual, different parties (youth workers, speech therapists, parents, kindergarten and school teachers, and other members of the community) have the same systematic knowledge on how to work with YPWS and how to support them. First, all parties will have the same information – they will know what stuttering is. Second, they will take into consideration how different people interpret information, such as what are their attitudes toward stuttering. Third, based on their knowledge about stuttering and different attitudes, they establish safe relationships and set goals that take into consideration people’s needs. Fourth, they will support each other with making a hierarchical plan – how to create a plan of action. Fifth, they will support each other with taking action, getting feedback and making changes to the plan if necessary. This systematic approach in which different parties work together and support each other will give more certainty that dreams of YPWS will be achieved. In such a society, people’s differences are accepted, people support each other and together become better people.
